Natalia Gotsiy is a Ukrainian model who gained international recognition after winning the 'Ford Supermodel of the World' competition in 2004. However, her career took a hit when the media spread photos of her looking excessively thin, leading to negative comments and almost undermining her career. Despite these setbacks, Gotsiy managed to make a name for herself in the fashion industry.

Momentary Disappearance and Return

At some point, Gotsiy temporarily disappeared from the fashion industry and became a mother for the first time. After reemerging, she started working closely with fashion magazine editors. However, her return to the runway was not as successful as expected. She received a minor role in the annual 'Victoria's Secret Fashion Show' in 2009. Gotsiy had previously worked with 'Victoria's Secret' in 2006. Speculations about her comeback grew after her appearance in the fashion show, suggesting that she aimed to revive her former glory.

Controversies and Challenges

Amid concerns about the increase in models with low body weight and the impact on societal perceptions of women's bodies, the media began circulating photos of "excessively thin" models worldwide. Gotsiy became a target of this campaign. Pictures of her appeared, showing a petite Natalia on the runway wearing a loose white top, which accentuated her thinness and revealed her prominent rib cage. These images, taken at the Spring 2007 show by French designer Guy Laroche, served as a striking example of the lengths models go to maintain their relevance in the fashion industry. Commentators often noted that the visibility of her bones, such as the rib cage and scapulae, was not typical of a healthy individual.

Overcoming Challenges and Personal Growth

Gotsiy vehemently denied having any eating disorders and insisted that her Ukrainian colleagues looked just as skinny. She argued that the photographs depicting her as extremely thin were manipulated in Photoshop. Unfortunately, the widespread circulation of these images made it difficult for Gotsiy to secure new modeling opportunities. At a height of 180 cm, she weighed only 47 kg. Refusing to accept her current situation, Gotsiy made an official statement blaming exhaustion and a previously demanding work schedule for her weight issues. Additionally, she expressed her desire to regain a healthy weight because she planned to become a mother for the second time. It took nearly six months for Gotsiy to gradually recover and regain her previous shape.

Today, Natalia Gotsiy is considered among the ranks of top models such as Maria Markina, Maria Dvirnik, Snejana Onopka, and others. Despite the challenges she faced throughout her career, Gotsiy has managed to overcome them and continue her journey in the fashion industry.
