Early Life and Education
Natalia Khotkina was born on September 2, 1956, in Chelyabinsk, Russia. She spent her childhood in the city of Kagan, Uzbekistan. Khotkina did not initially aspire to become a writer, but fate had other plans.
After graduating from the philological faculty of Donetsk University in 1978, she worked for two decades at the Donetsk Regional Children's Library. She also held teaching positions and worked as a journalist for newspapers in Donetsk.
Literary Career
Khotkina's literary pursuits began in earnest after a series of life events. She published her poems in various magazines and authored five poetry collections: "Touch," "From Heart to Heart," "Remedies for Love," "Poems," and "God's Little Bird."
Her writing style was characterized by its diversity, ranging from variations on urban romances and children's songs to traditional feminine lyrics and absurd humor. She also worked for the literary board of the Odessa humor magazine "Fountain."
Personal Life
Khotkina was a devoted mother to her daughter, Masha, and shared her home with a dog and three cats. Her daughter, Maria Khotkina, is also a poet. Natalia dedicated a poem to her daughter, humorously highlighting the challenges of generational misunderstandings.
Last Days and Legacy
Khotkina passed away on August 14, 2009. Her final work was a review of the July cycle of the Big Literary Contest, submitted on August 11th with an accompanying apology for being slightly late due to illness.
Khotkina's legacy is one of a talented and multifaceted writer who embraced laughter and absurdity in her work. She left behind a collection of poems, stories, and articles that continue to inspire and entertain readers.
