Nayana Karunaratne is a renowned beautician and fashion designer from Sri Lanka who has made a significant contribution to the industry.
Salon Nayana and Education
Karunaratne established her company, 'Salon Nayana', in 1980, which has since become a leader in the modern hairdressing fraternity. With 10 branches spanning from India to Sri Lanka, Salon Nayana has gained widespread recognition. In 2002, Nayana expanded her reach by opening a branch in Chennai.
To enhance her skills, Karunaratne pursued training at esteemed institutions worldwide, including The Alan School of Hair Dressing in London, the Rever School of Hair Dressing in Hong Kong, and renowned beauty brands such as Wella, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, and Schwarzkopf.
Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians
In 1996, Karunaratne founded the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians, which now boasts over 1,500 members. Inspired by Jun Encarnacion, a renowned hairstylist and president of the Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association of the Philippines, Karunaratne aimed to elevate the profession of hairdressing in Sri Lanka.
Master Classes and Image Consultants
In 2007, Karunaratne conducted a hairdressing masterclass in Karachi, Pakistan, sponsored by a multinational corporation in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians and the Pakistan Hair and Beauty Association.
Karunaratne also founded 'Image Consultants', an entity that offers comprehensive hairdressing, cosmetology, and makeup courses. Beyond technical skills, the courses emphasize soft skills such as positive thinking, personal grooming, etiquette, wardrobe planning, and time management. Image Consultants has collaborated with prominent corporations like John Keels, ANZ Standard Chartered Bank, and Colombo Hilton Hotel.
Collaborations with Sri Lankan Airlines
Karunaratne holds the prestigious position of official beautician for Sri Lankan Airlines. Her expertise has greatly contributed to the airline's reputation for impeccable grooming and the well-being of its flight attendants.
