Early Life and Career
Nedra Volz was born in Montrose, Iowa, as Nedra Gordineer. She made her acting debut as an infant in her family's tent show, playing various roles in vaudeville productions. In the 1930s, Volz sang with Cato's Vagabonds, a popular traveling band based in Des Moines, Iowa. She later sang with Will Osborne's orchestra and appeared on the B-side of one of their records.
Television and Film Roles
In the 1970s, Volz became a recognizable character actress, appearing primarily on television but also in some film roles. She played notable roles such as Aunt Edith Bunker in "All in the Family," housekeeper Adelaide Brubaker in "Diff'rent Strokes," and postal worker Emma Tisdale in "The Dukes of Hazzard." She also appeared in guest roles in series such as "The A-Team" and "WKRP in Cincinnati."
Later Career and Personal Life
In the 1980s, Volz continued her acting career, performing most of her own stunts in the film "Moving Violations." She was also a volunteer spokesperson for the D.A.R.E. anti-drug initiative. Her husband, Oren Volz, passed away in 1987.
Final Years and Legacy
Volz retired in 1996 with her final role in "The Great White Hype." She passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease in 2003 at the age of 94. Volz's legacy lives on through her extensive work in television and film, where she brought warmth and humor to countless roles.
