Early Life and Education

Neil Barrett Barber was born in 1965 in Devon, England. Both his grandfather and great-grandfather were tailors, sparking Neil's early interest in the art of tailoring. Professional Career

Barrett's work caught the attention of the fashion house 'Gucci', where he began his professional career. Working in Florence at 'Gucci' in the early 90s, Barrett gained commercial and production experience and quickly rose to the position of Senior Designer for men's collections. After five successful years, Barrett presented a new project to 'Prada', proposing the launch of their first designer men's clothing collection. Under Barrett's guidance, 'Prada' became known as a pioneer in creating minimalist men's clothing.

The 'Neil Barrett' Brand

In 1999, Barrett launched his own brand, 'Neil Barrett', starting with a collection of men's clothing, followed by a women's collection. In 2001, the first flagship 'Neil Barrett' store opened in the central shopping district of Tokyo Aoyama. In January 2002, Barrett's clothing was featured in the Milan Fashion Week calendar. Additionally, in 2002, Neil collaborated with the mega-brand 'Puma' to create the 'Puma by Neil Barrett' collection of athletic footwear, which was primarily sold in clothing stores rather than the traditional sports retail network.

Collaborations and Achievements

In the following year, 'Puma' appointed Neil Barrett as the Creative Director for several special collections, starting with the uniform for the Italian national football team. The Italian football team exclusively wore Neil Barrett's designs during training sessions and matches, ultimately winning the 2006 World Cup. Barrett became the first fashion designer to dress a national football team.

In February 2006, the 'Neil Barrett' women's clothing collection made its debut at New York Fashion Week. With growing sales (50 million euros in 2007), Barrett opened his third mono-brand store and the first store in Seoul, Korea. In 2007, Neil collaborated with British architect Zaha Hadid on the concept for a Tokyo store, featuring a massive sculpture measuring 28 meters in length and 3 meters in height.
