Nevada Tan: The Birth of an Emotional Soundscape
Hip-hop band Nevada Tan's raw and evocative lyrics delve into the depths of personal experiences and emotions. "Writing lyrics is a form of self-expression. When I'm feeling angry or upset, I don't take it out on others; I put it into a song. It's my release, my source of solace, hope, and renewal," explains vocalist and guitarist Timo.
A Surge of Innovation
Emerging in 2007, Nevada Tan burst onto the German music scene with a vibrant fusion of hip-hop and hard rock. Their thought-provoking lyrics, characterized by sharp wit and introspective depth, quickly captivated both fans and critics alike. The band's initial anonymous debut, consisting of six manga-inspired portraits of the members, only fueled intrigue, sparking a whirlwind of interest.
Six Hearts, One Passion
The story of Nevada Tan mirrors that of countless music collectives. However, their collaborative efforts bore extraordinary fruit, transforming their humble beginnings into a stirring and cohesive sound. "We knew exactly what we wanted to do. There were no concessions, no giving up, no excuses of 'ifs' or 'buts.' When we formed the band, we put everything on the line—it had to be excellent, or it wasn't worth writing, playing, or rehearsing," proclaims Timo.
"We've known each other for a long time, and we've been making music together for several years," adds vocalist and pianist David. "We started the band while we were still in school. It's an incredibly strong team: we have an intuitive understanding of each other, which is crucial on stage where the interaction shapes the sound. And when preparing for concerts or studio recordings, we make all decisions collectively—it's the only way to achieve excellence!"
Expanding Horizons
Initially featuring Yuri (drums), Jan (DJ), and Linke (bass, guitar, vocals), the band yearned for more. "We had a clear vision of where we wanted to take our music, but felt restricted by the limitations of a five-piece setup." To rectify this, they reached out to Heidelberg-based vocalist Frankie, who joined the collective in 2006. "As soon as we found him, the feeling was right: now we have the perfect team!" enthuses Nevada Tan. Frankie himself echoes this sentiment: "From day one, I knew we could create something special and authentic—something that has never been done before."
A Creative Ascent
As Nevada Tan's chemistry and musical prowess grew, so too did the refinement of their lyrical and sonic style. "Our unconventional band size has always sparked discussions, debates, and often unpopular opinions," the band reflects. "But it's precisely because there are six of us that we were able to find our creative voice so quickly. We could distribute the workload and streamline the songwriting process by discussing ideas and lyrics online, without having to meet in person for every little thing."
Studio Dedication
With their debut album in sight, Nevada Tan retreated into the studio, meticulously crafting the details of their sound. "While our peers were enjoying summer vacation, we were locked away, spending nights in sleeping bags," recalls David. "We simply can't imagine our lives without music: for us, it's everything."
A Collective Dream
Nevada Tan's unwavering commitment to their craft extends beyond their music. "Winning the Echo Award is our ultimate dream," they declare. "Timo's father won it with his band Illegal 2001. We've borrowed it from him and placed it in our studio—a constant reminder of what's possible when you pour your heart and soul into your music."
Inspiration and Artistic Influences
The emotional charge of Nevada Tan's lyrics stems from a tapestry of personal experiences and emotions. "Writing lyrics is a form of self-expression. When I'm feeling angry or upset, I don't take it out on others; I put it into a song. It's my release, my source of solace, hope, and renewal," Timo confides. David, who composes the band's melodies on the piano, draws inspiration from classical music: "It might seem far removed from what we do, but it allows me to 'hear' the songs differently!"
A Debut to Remember
Nevada Tan's debut album, set to drop on April 13, features their first single, "Revolution." They are also known for their electrifying live performances, and are currently preparing for an upcoming tour. "We want people to come to our shows, rock out, and have a great time," the band proclaims. "If the room is shaking, we're on the right track!"
