Early Life and Education

Nicholas Alexander Chavez was born into the thriving metropolis of Houston, Texas, on September 6, 1999. After a brief stay in Sugar Land, his family relocated to Colorado and settled in Denver. Chavez's parents divorced when he was five years old. The young actor spent time visiting his father in Arvada, a neighboring city in the same state.

Growing up, Chavez excelled in outdoor pursuits, enjoying hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding during the winter months. His natural charisma and artistic instincts led him to join the children's choir and perform on stage at various local theaters and concert halls. During his high school years at Denver East High School, Chavez was actively involved in both the football team and the drama club.

Initially undecided between pursuing sports or acting, Chavez's doubts were dispelled after he delivered a captivating performance as Atticus Finch in the school's production of "To Kill a Mockingbird." His talent was further recognized through his successes in speech competitions.

Upon graduating from high school, Chavez enrolled at Visionbox Studio Theater in Denver to embark on a formal theatrical education. To finance his expensive schooling, he worked as a theater usher. Jennifer McCray Rincón, the school's director and former head of the National Theater Conservatory, took Chavez under her wing, mentoring him for college auditions.

Chavez applied to the theater programs at Rutgers University, Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, and The Juilliard School. He received offers from all but the latter. He eventually settled on Rutgers in New Jersey, where he spent two years studying theater arts before relocating to California to pursue his acting career in the entertainment hub of Hollywood.

Career Breakthrough

In 2021, Chavez's acting aspirations received a boost when he secured an agent in New York City. This paved the way for him to land his first role in the iconic daytime soap opera "General Hospital," which premiered on ABC in 1963. Chavez portrayed Spencer Cassadine, the wealthy son of Prince Nikolas and his late lover Courtney Matthews, who struggles with insecurities as he attempts to navigate the complexities of "normal" society. The actor appeared in 358 episodes before his character's tragic demise in January 2024, when Spencer fell to his death in the Seine River in Paris.

Chavez's performance on "General Hospital" earned him accolades, including the Soap Hub Award for "Favorite Newcomer" in 2021 and the Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Young Performer in a Drama Series" in 2022.

Success in Film and Television

In 2022, Chavez joined the cast of Nicky Koss' coming-of-age comedy "Crushed." He played Jason, a high schooler who becomes the object of Kate's (Bibi Wood) affection. However, Kate's attempts to connect with him during a school trip quickly spiral out of control. The ensemble cast also featured Brenna D'Amico, Valerie Azlynn, Kylie Russell, Lisa Yamada, Meg Wright, and Bailey Stender. The film premiered on Tubi TV in April of the same year.

Current Projects

In 2023, it was announced that Chavez had been cast in the second season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's biographical crime anthology series, "Monster." The nine-episode drama, based on true events, follows the story of the Menendez brothers—Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch)—who were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez (Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny). The first episode aired on Netflix on September 19, 2024.

Chavez is also set to star in "Grotesque," a chilling horror-infused drama series created by Ryan Murphy, John Robin Baitz, and Joe Beeken. The show revolves around Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash) and a nun (Megan Duvall Michaela Diamond) as they investigate a string of bizarre and gruesome crimes. Chavez portrays Father Charlie, a character entangled in the sinister web of events.
