Biography of Lee Grant
Lee Grant was born on October 31, 1927, in New York City, to Eastern European Jewish immigrants Vitta (nee Haskel), a teacher, and Abraham Rosenthal, a realtor and educator. At the age of four, Grant was enrolled in a ballet studio, where she diligently studied the art of ballet. She later performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera. As a teenager, Grant made her debut on Broadway, showcasing her true acting talent and earning praise from renowned theater directors.

Grant made her film debut in the detective film "Detective Story" and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. During the same period, she won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. However, Grant faced a difficult time in her career when she refused to testify against her husband and the father of her daughter, Arnold Manoff. As a result, she was blacklisted in Hollywood and put her career on hold. She continued to work in theater and resumed her film career in the early 1960s, appearing in the television series "Peyton Place." She also won an Emmy Award for her outstanding work.

Throughout her career, Lee Grant has been recognized with multiple Academy Award nominations. In addition to her work in fiction films, she has also directed several documentaries, including the award-winning "Down and Out in America" (1986). Grant also released a series of "Intimate Portrait" episodes for Lifetime Television, which gained popularity.
