Biography of Nicholas Kirkwood
British shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood is the founder and owner of the eponymous footwear brand for men and women. Despite his youth, Kirkwood has acquired a solid reputation as a talented and inspired master, with many famous personalities among his fans, including fashionistas like Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyoncé, Sienna Miller, Rihanna, and Julianne Moore. While his new collections can always be admired on the official website of his shoe brand, not much is known about Kirkwood himself.
Early Life and Education
Nicholas was born in 1980 and studied art at Saint Martins before specializing in the challenging craft of shoemaking at Cordwainers College, the oldest school for shoemakers in the world, founded in the 19th century.
Founding the Brand
In 2004, Kirkwood established the brand "Nicholas Kirkwood" and, together with his business partner Christopher Suarez, gained attention from the press and buyers thanks to his unique "sculptural shoes."
Global Success
Currently, his collections are sold in 150 leading department stores and boutiques worldwide, as well as in three flagship stores located in London, New York, and Las Vegas. Since then, Nicholas Kirkwood has received numerous professional awards, including Designer of the Year (twice) in the "Accessories" category at the British Fashion Awards and Best Accessories Designer from the British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.
