Education and Career at the Makyeevka Metallurgical Plant
Nikolay Gurov, a prominent Soviet economic leader, graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute in 1952. From 1952 to 1972, he held various positions at the Makyeevka Metallurgical Plant, including assistant foreman and shift supervisor in rolling mill No. 2, assistant and deputy head of rolling mill No. 1, head of production planning and dispatching, and deputy and chief engineer of the plant.
Leadership at Krivorozhstal and Ukrmetallurgprom
In 1972, Gurov became the director of the Krivorozhstal plant. From 1981 to 1982, he served as head of the Ukrmetallurgprom administration.
Director of Ilyich Metallurgical Plant and Foreign Mission
From 1982 to 1990, Gurov was the director of the Ilyich Metallurgical Plant. After a two-year foreign assignment, he returned to the plant as deputy chief engineer.
Accomplishments and Recognition
Gurov was a recipient of the State Prize of Ukraine in 1987. He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Merit, 3rd degree, and other medals. He was the author of 35 inventions.
Legacy
In recognition of his contributions, a monument to Nikolay Gurov was erected in the Lugopark of Mariupol, which bears his name.
