Nick Goepper: A Rising Star in Freestyle Skiing
Early Life and Introduction to FreestyleNick Goepper, an American freestyle skier, was born in the small town of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. His skiing journey began at the Perfect North Slopes resort at the tender age of five, though the size of the slopes there was far from impressive. It was here, however, that Goepper first encountered freestyle skiing, and the experience ignited a passion within him. The ability to "catch air" became a defining moment, turning freestyle into a second nature and an all-consuming love.
Building a Backyard Training Park
At just 13 years old, Goepper constructed a makeshift training park in his own backyard. With basic features and improvised training equipment, he honed his skills and developed a strong foundation for his future pursuits.
Joining the Windells Academy
At 16, Goepper enrolled at the Windells Academy in Mount Hood, Oregon. This provided him with access to proper training facilities and the guidance of experienced professionals, elevating his skills to the next level.
Professional Debut and Rising Stardom
In the winter of 2010-2011, Goepper made his professional debut at the Dew Tour and the Winter X Games in France. ESPN quickly recognized him as a "rookie to watch" as he rapidly gained recognition and began delivering impressive results. Within months, he earned third place at the Dew Tour in Killington and went on to win the Dumont Cup in Maine, an event where up-and-coming athletes compete against seasoned professionals.
Olympic Success
Goepper's impressive collection of complex moves and tricks led him to podium finishes at major events, including a silver medal at the Winter X Games in Aspen in 2012. He reached new heights the following year, winning gold in slopestyle at the 2013 Winter X Games. On December 21, 2013, he secured second place at a slopestyle event during the US Grand Prix, earning him a spot on the US Olympic team. At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Goepper delivered a stellar performance, winning a bronze medal behind fellow Americans Joss Christensen and Gus Kenworthy.
Current Life and Interests
Goepper currently trains and resides at the Windells Academy. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, biking, hiking, swimming, and surfing. Notably, Goepper is a devout Christian.
