Early Life and Career

Hilde Pedersen was born in Norway in 1964. She began skiing at a young age and showed exceptional talent in both cross-country skiing and ski orienteering. In 1984, she joined the Norwegian national cross-country skiing team.

Olympic Success

Pedersen competed in two Winter Olympics. At the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, she won a silver medal in the 4×5 km relay. Four years later in Turin, at the age of 41, she claimed a bronze medal in the 10 km classical race.

World Championship Victories

Pedersen also enjoyed great success at the World Championships. She won five medals in total: one gold (2005 relay), two silver (2001, 2003 relay), and two bronze (2003 sprint, 10 km).

World Cup Podiums

Throughout her career, Pedersen achieved 13 podium finishes in World Cup races, including five third-place results, seven second-place finishes, and one victory. In January 2006, she became the oldest female skier to win a World Cup race, triumphing in Otepää, Estonia, at the age of 41.

Ski Orienteering Achievements

Beyond cross-country skiing, Pedersen also excelled in ski orienteering. She won five World Championship medals (three silver, two bronze) and claimed the overall World Cup title in 1997.

Legacy and Recognition

Pedersen retired from cross-country skiing in 2008. She remains an inspiration to athletes of all ages and continues to be actively involved in skiing as a coach and mentor. In 2003, she was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris, a prestigious prize given to Norwegian athletes who achieve success in one sport internationally and in another sport nationally or above.
