Nick Mullen: Stand-Up Comedian, Podcaster, and Writer

Nick Mullen is an American stand-up comedian, podcaster, producer, actor, and comedy writer. With a career spanning two decades, he is best known for his work as the co-creator and co-host of the comedy podcast Cum Town (2016–2022) and its successor, The Adam Friedland Show (2022–present). He released his first comedy special, "Year of the Dragon," in December 2023. His comedy often focuses on internet culture and is characterized by its ironic, observational, and self-deprecating nature.

Early Life and Career

Born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Mullen began performing comedy in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area as a teenager, frequently appearing at Wiseacres Comedy Club in Virginia. In his early 20s, he resided in Austin, Texas (and briefly in Los Angeles).

He toured the country, opening for comedians such as Dana Gould, Jim Norton, Patrice O'Neal, and Hannibal Buress. In 2010, he was named "Best of the Fest" at the Laugh Detroit Festival. In 2012, he performed at SXSW as part of the Made in Austin and Weekend Spotlight comedy showcases. That same year, he was named one of the "New Faces: Unrepped" at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.

Writing and Podcasting

From 2013 to 2015, Mullen wrote a blog under the pseudonym Nicole Mullen on Thought Catalog. He also had a prank podcast called "Help Me, I'm Old."

In the mid-2010s, Mullen moved to New York City. Prior to Cum Town, he made numerous television and radio appearances. In the late 2010s, he was a regular guest on the podcasts Real Ass Podcast, Race Wars (hosted by Kurt Metzger and Sherrod Small), and Legion of Skanks. His writing credits include TruTV's Knockout Comedy (2016 premiere), Make Me Understand with Jim Norton (a 2016 IFC pilot), and 2017's The Problem with Moshe Kasher (Comedy Central).

Cum Town and The Adam Friedland Show

From 2016 to its end in 2022, Mullen co-hosted the comedy podcast Cum Town. On June 29, 2022, Mullen and Adam Friedland released the first episode of The Adam Friedland Show, the successor to Cum Town, after co-host Stavros Halkias departed from the show. Friedland hosts the show, while Mullen serves as its producer and co-host.

Comedy Special and Personal Life

Mullen's stand-up special, "Nick Mullen: Year of the Dragon," was released on December 3, 2023, and garnered one million views within its first week of release.

Mullen resides in Brooklyn, New York. He previously lived in Manhattan's Chinatown; some of his comedy bits draw on his experiences living in a windowless tenement building. Mullen voted for Howie Hawkins in the 2020 United States presidential election.
