Nicky Oppenheimer, the current Chairman of the diamond mining company "De Beers", is the owner of the largest diamond production and processing corporation in the world. In 2007, his revenue from the sale of precious stones exceeded $6.5 billion. However, due to new legislation in South Africa, Oppenheimer is now required to give 26% of his diamond production to the government, resulting in significant losses for his family.

Early Life and Education

Nicky Oppenheimer was born on June 8, 1945. He is one of the wealthiest individuals in South Africa. He is the son of Harry Oppenheimer, and his grandfather, Ernest Oppenheimer, was the first in the family to become the head of "De Beers". The company itself was founded in 1888 by Cecil John Rhodes. Nicky Oppenheimer received his education in England, attending the school at Harrow Church. He later obtained a higher education in philosophy, political science, and economics from Oxford University.

Family and Personal Life

As a well-established gentleman, Oppenheimer married Orsilla Lasch, the daughter of industrial stock exchange magnate Helli Lasch, in 1968. They have a son named Jonathan Oppenheimer, who continues his father's business. Jonathan is also the Managing Director of the "De Beers" subsidiary. Nicky Oppenheimer currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the Brenthurst estate. He holds dual citizenship with England. Additionally, he owns a small farm and a magnificent garden that is open to visitors.
