Biography of Nicola Berti

Nicola Berti is a former Italian footballer and midfielder. He began his career at Parma before playing for Fiorentina. In 1988, he transferred to Inter Milan, winning the Italian championship in his first season. In the following season, Berti also won the Italian Super Cup with the team.

In 1990, Nicola Berti represented the Italian national team in the FIFA World Cup held in Italy. However, Italy unexpectedly lost in the semifinals to Argentina on penalties. Berti did not participate in that match due to a yellow card suspension received in the quarterfinals against Uruguay. Nevertheless, Italy went on to win the third-place match against England.

In 1994, Berti played in his second World Cup, where he featured in all the matches. However, he was positioned in the center of midfield by the head coach Arrigo Sacchi, which was not his preferred position as a winger. In this tournament, Italy reached the final but lost to Brazil on penalties.

After the World Cup, Berti did not participate in any more major tournaments for the national team, although he remained an important figure at Inter Milan until the 1997-1998 season, where he only played four games. Subsequently, Berti left the club and continued his career at Tottenham Hotspur in England, Alaves in Spain, and Northern Spirit in Australia.

Currently, Berti works as a television commentator for Italy 1 channel. He is married and has two children, Leonardo (born in 2006) and Lorenzo (born in 2008).
