Formichetti relocated to London, where he briefly studied architecture before deciding to pursue a career in fashion. He worked at the renowned boutique The Pineal Eye, eventually becoming its creative director. This led to a collaboration with fashion editor Katie England and a monthly column, "Eye Spy," for Dazed & Confused magazine. By 2008, he had become Dazed & Confused's creative director.
