Nicolas Lapierre: A French Racing Prodigy

Early Career in Karting and Formula Renault

Nicolas Lapierre began his racing career in 1993 with karting. He achieved notable success, finishing third in the French Championship in 1996, sixth in the European Championship in 1997, and winning the European Junior Championship in 1998. In 1999, he transitioned to the French Formula Renault series.

Breakthrough in Formula Three

In 2003, Lapierre joined the Euroseries Formula 3 for Team Signature and made a breakthrough with a memorable victory at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. He continued in the Euroseries in 2004, earning a third-place finish and competing in the British Formula 3 series.

Entry into the GP2 Series

Lapierre's reputation and talent were recognized when he secured a place in the inaugural GP2 Series with the reigning champion team Arden International. He partnered with Heikki Kovalainen, another rising star.

A1 Grand Prix Championship Victory

In 2005, Lapierre represented Team France in the A1 Grand Prix series, where he contributed to the team's championship victory. He won both races at the German and Australian rounds, as well as the Feature Race in Dubai and the Sprint Race in Indonesia.

Continued Success in GP2

Lapierre returned to GP2 with Arden in 2006, but his season was disrupted by an accident in Monaco that injured his spine. Despite missing the British and French rounds, he still managed to improve his points tally from the previous season.

Third Season in GP2 with DAMS

For his third year in GP2, Lapierre joined the DAMS team, which had finished tenth in the team standings and supported Team France's winning campaign in the inaugural A1 Grand Prix season.
