Nikita Rukavytsya: Ukrainian-Australian Striker

Early Career in Australia

Nikita Rukavytsya began his football journey in Ukraine at the Torpedo (Mykolaiv) youth academy. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to Australia, where he continued his development with Inglewood United and Perth, playing in the Western Australian youth league.

Breakthrough with Perth Glory

After joining the Australian Institute of Sport, Rukavytsya played for their student team in 2005-06. A short-term contract with Perth Glory in 2006-07 paved the way for his breakthrough season in 2007-08. Despite a shaky start, he emerged as a leader and one of the revelations of the campaign.

International Debut and European Stint

In 2008, Rukavytsya made his Olympic team debut in San Francisco against Mexico. He also had an unsuccessful trial with Hannover in Germany. At the Beijing Olympics, he featured in all three matches for Australia, as they finished third in their group. In 2009, he joined Dutch side Twente, making his Eredivisie debut in March.

Loans and Transfer to Hertha

After limited opportunities at Twente, Rukavytsya was loaned to Belgian club Roeselare in 2010. In July 2010, he signed a three-year contract with Hertha BSC as a free agent. He made two substitute appearances for Australia at the 2010 World Cup.

Bundesliga Years and Frankfurt Loan

In 2012, Rukavytsya moved to Mainz 05 from Hertha. After a loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2013, he joined Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014.

Middle East and Return to Australia

In 2015, Rukavytsya signed with Beitar Jerusalem, before moving to Maccabi Haifa in 2016, where he remains to this day.
