Biography of Nikolay Avraamov
Nikolay Yurievich Avraamov was an outstanding Russian naval officer and talented educator. He was born on June 22, 1892, in Baku, in a noble family. In 1912, he graduated from the Naval Corps in St. Petersburg. Serving as an artillery officer on the cruiser "Gromoboy," he participated in the Battle of Tsushima during World War I. For his remarkable service to the country during the war, Avraamov was awarded the Orders of St. Anna, St. Stanislav, and Vladimir.

During the Russian Civil War, Avraamov courageously fought for the Soviet government on the Azov and Black Seas. From 1923 to 1930, he served in various positions on the Black Sea Fleet, including ship commander, commander of the Training Squadron, and Chief of Staff. However, in 1930, he was repressed and later rehabilitated in 1932. He then started working as a teacher at the Frunze Naval Higher School in Leningrad and later at the Dzerzhinsky Naval Academy. During this time, he authored several textbooks on naval practice.
In 1941, at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, Avraamov was appointed the commander of the Chudskaya Military Flotilla. Later that year, he was transferred to the position of Deputy Commander of the Ladoga Military Flotilla and Commander of the Osenevets VMV to organize the supply of Leningrad along the Road of Life.
In late 1942, Avraamov, the talented educator, became the head of accelerated training courses for junior lieutenants in Leningrad. In 1943, he was appointed the head of the Naval School for Young Seamen on the Solovetsky Islands. From 1944 to 1946, he continued his pedagogical activities as the Chief of the Leningrad Naval Preparatory School. He then served as Deputy Chief of the Naval Research Institute of the Navy in Leningrad from 1946 to 1949. In 1949, he retired with the rank of Captain 1st Rank. Avraamov passed away on April 3, 1949, and was buried at the Serafimovskoye Cemetery in Leningrad.
For his services to the Motherland, Avraamov was awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Patriotic War 1st Class, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals. In 1999, his name was included in the "Golden Book of St. Petersburg" for his heroism during the siege of Leningrad and his contributions to the city's supply.
