Early Life and Education
Nikolai Grigoryevich Dokashenko was born on November 20, 1921, in the village of Kondratovka, now part of the Sumy region, Ukraine. He was born to a peasant family and grew up with a passion for aviation.
Dokashenko completed his secondary education and joined an aeroclub. In June 1941, at the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Red Army. He graduated from the Chernihiv Military Aviation School in 1943.
World War II
In June 1944, Dokashenko joined the active army and fought on the 1st Baltic Front. He flew a P-39 "Aerocobra" and achieved two aerial victories, downing two German Me-109 aircraft in October and December 1944.
In August 1945, he participated in the Soviet-Japanese War. By the end of World War II, he had amassed four aerial victories.
Post-War Service and Korean War
After the war, Dokashenko continued his military service in the Air Force. In 1950, he was sent to fight in the Korean War. He flew 148 combat missions and shot down 11 enemy aircraft.
On April 22, 1952, Dokashenko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his exemplary service and courage.
Later Life and Legacy
Upon returning home, Dokashenko held several posts in the Air Force, including Deputy Commander of an aviation regiment. He retired in 1960 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dokashenko lived in Sumy, where he worked for the DOSAAF (Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation, and Navy). He passed away on [date of death], leaving behind a legacy as a legendary Soviet ace and hero.
