Nikolai Sukoyan: Architect, Artist, and Veteran

Born in the Soviet Union, Nikolai Sukoyan was a versatile individual who made significant contributions to the fields of architecture, art, and military service.

Education and Early Career

1937-1943, 1946-1954:Sukoyan pursued his education at the Moscow Architectural Institute (MArhI), where he also served as an assistant professor during the war years.

Military Service

1943-1945:Sukoyan played an active role in the Great Patriotic War, fighting at the Sandemir Bridgehead.

Architectural Accomplishments

1946:Upon returning from the war, Sukoyan resumed his teaching duties and engaged in practical design work.

1947:He designed a rural club that showcased his architectural skills.

Ivan Zholtovsky's Atelier

1947:Sukoyan became a close collaborator of Ivan Zholtovsky, a renowned architectural academician. Together, they worked on several prestigious projects, including the Palace of Soviets and the Borodino Panorama.

State Tretyakov Gallery and Central House of Artists Complex

1957:In collaboration with a team of architects, Sukoyan designed and built the iconic State Tretyakov Gallery and Central House of Artists complex on the Krymskaya Embankment, a major architectural achievement.

1990s:As head architect of Mosproject-2's Atelier No. 3, Sukoyan led the design team for the reconstruction of Krasnye Vorota Square, the Na Pokrovka and Modern theaters, and the development of the Park of Arts on the Krymskaya Embankment.

Sukoyan was also a prolific artist, specializing in various mediums and themes, including landscapes, portraits, and historical subjects. He exhibited his works extensively, including solo shows in Moscow from 1965 to 2005.
