Introduction to Ocean Ramsey

Ocean Ramsey is an American model, scuba diving instructor, and freediver who has gained fame for her unusual passion. She is known for swimming with sharks and aims to prove to the world that these marine predators are not the vicious monsters portrayed in movies like the iconic "Jaws" (1975).

Swimming with Sharks

Despite the disbelief it may evoke, the photographs of Ocean swimming alongside a great white shark while holding onto its dorsal fin are indeed real. With a confident and relaxed smile, Ocean challenges the common perception that these creatures are dangerous. She travels the world and has swum with 32 different species of marine life, including rays, in an attempt to show that sharks and other sea creatures are not as threatening as many people believe.

A Passion Born from Childhood

Ocean, whose name fittingly means "ocean" in English, grew up in Hawaii and San Diego. She learned to swim before she could walk, and her first encounter and touch with a great white shark reminded her of her experiences with horses. This moment became one of the greatest in her life, and recently, she has ventured into the water with groups of great white sharks for the third time. Ocean claims she can differentiate between "her" sharks based on specific markings, scars, and coloring around their gills.

Dispelling Myths and Protecting Sharks

Ocean does not encourage everyone to swim with sharks, but she believes that it is her mission to dispel the myths surrounding these incredible creatures, which are currently endangered. She argues that every story needs its villain, and after movies like "Jaws," the media continues to manipulate public perception by portraying sharks as nothing more than terrifying monsters terrorizing coastlines worldwide. Simply showing these animals swimming peacefully and not attacking or consuming humans, which they likely spend 99 percent of their time doing, is not enough to convince people that sharks are not monsters. Ocean hopes to gather support for petitions that will draw attention to the CITES conference, where the protection of endangered wildlife species will be discussed. The conference is scheduled to take place in Dublin, Ireland, at the end of March.
