Biography of Odil Ahmedov
Odil Ahmedov is an Uzbek football player who played as a midfielder and was the former captain of the Uzbekistan national team. He announced his retirement from professional football on December 18, 2021.
Early Career
Ahmedov began his career with the Uzbek club "Pakhtakor" in 2006, when the team was coached by Russian trainer Valeri Nepomnyashchy. He made his debut for the club in a cup match against Zenit Saint Petersburg on March 1, 2011. Ahmedov was named the club's best player of the year in 2011.
Moving to Russia
In February 2011, Ahmedov was loaned to the Russian club "Anzhi". Despite suffering an injury in a Europa League match against Vitesse in August 2012, he helped Anzhi win the bronze medal in the Russian Premier League in the 2012/13 season and reach the final of the Russian Cup, where they lost to CSKA Moscow in a penalty shootout.
Transfer to Shanghai SIPG
In late 2016, Ahmedov transferred to the Chinese club "Shanghai SIPG". He played for the team until his retirement in 2021.
International Career
Ahmedov has been a member of the Uzbekistan national team since 2007. He represented his country in two AFC Asian Cup tournaments. In the 2011 edition, he played in all six matches, scored two goals, and reached the semifinals of the tournament. He was also named in the tournament's Best XI. In the 2015 edition, he played in four matches and scored a goal against China (1-2). Ahmedov captained the national team from September 2, 2015. He was included in the squad for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and scored a goal in the opening match of the group stage against Oman (2-1).
Retirement
In June 2021, Ahmedov announced his retirement from the Uzbekistan national team.
