Ukrainian film director and screenwriter, Viktor Zhmurko, was a renowned figure in the film industry. He received the distinguished title of Merited Artist of Ukraine in 1996 and was a corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
Early Life and Education
Born in Druzhkivka, Ukraine, Zhmurko completed his secondary education at School No. 6 and pursued technical studies at the Druzhkovka Mechanical Engineering College, graduating in 1964. His passion for cinema led him to the Kyiv Theater Institute (KGITI) named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary, where he earned degrees in Film Studies (1969) and Directing (1973) under the guidance of the esteemed N.P. Mashchenko.
Career at Dovzhenko Film Studio
Zhmurko embarked on his film career in 1973 at the prestigious Kyiv Film Studio named after O. Dovzhenko. He held various positions, including assistant director, director, and director-producer. Notably, he held roles as Secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Main Culture Department of Kyiv City Administration, and Permanent President of several film funds.
Throughout his illustrious career, Zhmurko garnered recognition and awards at both national and international film festivals. He was a member of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine.
Family and Personal Life
Zhmurko's daughter, Tonya Fialko, embarked on an acting career and starred in her father's film "The Scourge of God."
Legacy
Viktor Zhmurko passed away on July 27, 2024, at the age of 78 after a prolonged and challenging illness. He leaves behind a legacy of exceptional film contributions.
