Biography of Oleg Cassini

Oleg Cassini was born on April 11, 1913, in Paris, France. His father, Count Alexander Cassini, was Russian. After the revolution, the family moved to Florence, Italy, where Oleg received his education at the Academy of Fine Arts. He started working as a fashion designer in Paris in 1935 and then moved to New York in 1936, where he soon opened his own design studio.

Hollywood Career and Worldwide Fame

Cassini became a designer for Hollywood studios Paramount and 20th Century Fox. In 1942, he volunteered to serve in the war effort. After the war, in 1950, he opened his own wholesale clothing company in New York, which marked the beginning of his worldwide fame. He won numerous fashion competitions and became known for his costume designs for Broadway shows.

Official Designer for First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy

In 1960, Cassini was appointed as the official designer for the First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy. He created iconic and stylish outfits that became synonymous with the Kennedy era.
