Early Life and Injury
Elchin Panahov is an Azerbaijani Paralympic athlete who competes in the F12 and T11/T13 categories for blindness. Despite losing his eyesight at the age of 16, Panahov has risen to become a renowned athlete.
Paralympic Success
Panahov's Paralympic journey began with a gold medal in the long jump at the 2004 Athens Paralympics. He went on to claim another gold in the triple jump at the 2012 London Paralympics. Additionally, he has earned bronze medals in the long jump (2008 Beijing) and the 4 x 100 meter relay (2012 London).
World and European Championships
Panahov's success extends beyond the Paralympics. He is a European champion in both the long jump (2005) and triple jump (2011). He also secured a silver medal in the long jump at the 2006 World Championships and another silver in the triple jump at the 2009 European Championships.
Breaking Barriers
On June 26, 2011, Panahov shattered the European record in the men's F12 triple jump with an impressive leap of 15.09 meters. He continued to excel, winning the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 2012 European Championships.
Recognition and Honors
In recognition of his contributions to the Paralympic movement in Azerbaijan, Panahov was awarded the "Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2016. This accolade underscores his dedication and impact on society.
