Early Career
Norwegian track and field athlete Karsten Warholm emerged as a rising star in hurdling at the 2013 World Junior Championships, where he claimed the gold medal. The following year, he competed in the decathlon at the World Junior Championships, finishing in tenth place.
International Breakthrough
In 2015, Warholm secured two silver medals at the European Junior Championships in the decathlon and 400-meter hurdles. He qualified for the Rio Olympics that year, reaching the semifinals in the 400-meter hurdles.
European Dominance
Warholm's breakthrough came in 2017 when he won the 400-meter hurdles gold and the 400-meter silver at the European U23 Championships. His victory in the hurdles, with a time of 48.37 seconds, set a new Norwegian record. This performance qualified him for the World Championships in London, where he stunned the field to win with a time of 48.35 seconds.
At the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, Warholm captured gold in the 400-meter hurdles with an impressive time of 47.64 seconds, setting a new national best.
World Champion
Warholm continued his dominance at the 2019 World Championships in Qatar, securing his second consecutive gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles. He crossed the finish line in 47.42 seconds.
World Record
In 2021, Warholm etched his name in history by setting a new world record in the 400-meter hurdles at the Oslo Diamond League meet. He clocked a time of 46.70 seconds, shattering the previous record of 46.78 seconds set by American Kevin Young in 1992.
