Birth and Early Education
Oleg Vasilyev was born on November 4, 1931, in Moscow. From 1952 to 1958, he pursued his art education at the Graphic Arts Department of the prestigious Moscow State Academic Art Institute.
Art Career in the USSR
After graduating, Vasilyev became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1967. Throughout the 1960s and beyond, for over three decades, he dedicated his talents to children's book illustration. His partnership with fellow artist Erik Bulatov produced memorable works for publishers such as Detgiz and Malysh.
Emigration to the United States
In 1990, Vasilyev made the decision to emigrate to New York City, where he remained until his passing. He passed away on January 26, 2013, leaving behind a rich legacy of artistic contributions.
