Early Life and Military Career
Born in Khmelnytsky on March 30, 1966, Igor Zhdanov embarked on a military career graduating from the Khmelnytsky Higher Artillery Command School in 1987. He served in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany from 1987 to 1992.
Service in Ukraine
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Zhdanov continued his service in Ukraine, serving in the 331st Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment and teaching at the National Academy of Defense of Ukraine. From 1999 to 2004, he worked in the Main Directorate of Rocket Forces and Artillery, later transferring to the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Retirement and Political Aspirations
In 2007, Zhdanov retired from military service with the rank of Colonel. He subsequently ran for the Kyiv Oblast Council on the "Samopomich" ticket in 2015 but was unsuccessful.
Journalism Career
Since 2016, Zhdanov has become a prominent figure in the media, frequently appearing on television and writing articles for Ukrainian publications such as "Gordon," "Obozrevatel," and "Glavred." He has also established his own YouTube channel where he provides analysis on military affairs, amassing over 500,000 subscribers.
Family Life
Zhdanov has been married to Lyudmila since 1987. She is the Director of Strategic Development at the publishing house "Health of Ukraine." Their son, Volodymyr, is a confectionery entrepreneur.
