Ryan Crouser, an American shot putter, has made a name for himself in the world of track and field. His remarkable achievements have cemented his status as one of the greatest shot putters of all time.

Early Life and Influences

Crouser hails from a family of exceptional athletes. His father, Mitch Crouser, was a discus thrower, while his uncles Brian and Dean Crouser were javelin and discus throwers, respectively. His cousins Sam and Haley are also javelin throwers. Growing up in Gresham, Oregon, Crouser attended Sam Barlow High School. He later continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin.

International Debut and University Career

Crouser debuted on the international stage in 2009, triumphing in the shot put and finishing second in the discus throw at the World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy. However, a leg injury in 2010 temporarily sidelined him. During his university years, Crouser excelled in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competitions.

Crouser made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. On June 18, 2021, during the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, Crouser stunned the world with a colossal throw of 23.37 meters. This incredible distance surpassed Randy Barnes' world record, which had stood for over 31 years.

Tokyo Olympics and Continued Dominance

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Crouser broke his own Olympic record in his first attempt, throwing the shot put a distance of 22.83 meters. In his second attempt, he extended his lead with a throw of 22.93 meters. In his sixth and final attempt, with the gold medal already secured, Crouser launched the shot put 23.30 meters, just 7 centimeters shy of his world record.
