Family Background and Early Life

Olivia Newton-John's grandfather was the famous German physicist and Nobel Prize laureate Max Born. Her father was the head of a prestigious private college in Melbourne. It was at this institution that Olivia Newton-John formed her first group, Sol Four, which included three of her classmates.

Early Career

At the age of 16, Olivia Newton-John won a local competition for aspiring vocalists and traveled to England. There, she worked with her fellow countrywoman Pat Carroll for two years. When Pat's English visa expired, she returned to Australia, while Olivia Newton-John joined the project Tomorrow, organized by Don Kirshner as a British response to The Monkees.
