Biography of Omarov Omar Alimagomedovich
Scientific BackgroundOmar Alimagomedovich Omarov is a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, and Rector of Dagestan State University. He is a distinguished scientist in the Republic of Dagestan and the Russian Federation.
Omarov graduated from Dagestan State University in 1961 with a degree in Physics. He completed his postgraduate studies in 1967 and defended his doctoral dissertation in 1970. In 1984, he earned his doctorate with a dissertation titled "Electrical Breakdown of High-Pressure Gases in Strong Magnetic Fields."
Academic Career
Since 1964, Omarov has held various positions at Dagestan State University, including:
Aspiring professor
Associate professorDean of the Department of Physics
Vice-rector
Rector (since 1992)
Research Contributions
Omarov's research focuses on the breakdown of gases in strong magnetic fields. His studies, which began in the 1970s, have significantly contributed to understanding the general principles of gas breakdown and the mechanisms of breakdown in strong longitudinal magnetic fields.
Scientific Publications and Innovations
Omarov has published over 120 scientific and scientific-methodological papers, including 10 patents and 10 textbooks. His findings have been published in renowned journals and as preprints by the Lebedev Physical Institute.
Omarov has developed a methodology and invented unique apparatus for studying the electrical and optical characteristics of gas discharge during breakdown. His laboratory has discovered several fundamental laws governing the plasma mechanism of breakdown and established other crucial parameters of this phenomenon.
International Recognition
Omarov's scientific achievements have earned him international recognition. He has presented at various international conferences and symposiums, including in Minsk, Pisa, London, and Kazan. He has actively participated in the organization and conduct of two All-Union Conferences on the Physics of Gas Discharge in Makhachkala.
Academic Leadership
Omarov is the Chairman of the Doctoral Specialized Council, a full member of the Academy of Technological Sciences of the Russian Federation, a corresponding member of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education, and a Soros Professor.
