Biography of Akil Akilov

Akil Akilov was born on February 2, 1944, in Leninabad (now Khujand), the second largest city in Tajikistan. He obtained his higher education in Moscow, graduating from the Moscow Institute of Engineering and Construction in 1967 with a degree in civil engineering. In 1980, he also received a diploma from the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

After completing his education, Akilov started his professional career as a master builder in the fifth construction trust "Leninabadzhilstroi". From 1969 to 1976, he held various positions including chief engineer and head of the main housing and utilities department in Leninabad. He also served as the head of the ninth construction trust "Leninabadzhilstroi".

In the 1970s, Akilov began his ascent up the political ladder. From 1976 to 1993, he worked as an instructor and later became the head of the department at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, he was appointed as the Minister of Construction in 1993.

From 1994 to 1996, Akilov served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan. From 1996 to 1999, he was the First Deputy Chairman of the Leninabad (now Sughd) region. In 1999, Akilov was appointed as the Prime Minister of Tajikistan, replacing former Minister Y. Azimov. He has held this position since then and was reappointed by the President of Tajikistan on December 1, 2006.

During his almost decade-long tenure as Prime Minister, Akilov played a crucial role in rebuilding the country's infrastructure, which had suffered during the civil war of the 1990s. He also contributed to improving the overall quality of life for the Tajik people and making significant progress in foreign policy matters.

Akil Akilov has surpassed all records of longevity in his position, serving as the head of the government for over nine years. Analysts and experts attribute his long-lasting career to his lack of personal political ambitions and business interests. His unparalleled work ethic and perseverance, working up to eighteen hours a day, have also been recognized through prestigious state awards. He has been honored with the Order of Ismail Samani First Class, the "Sign of Honor," and the "Medal for Labor Excellence".

Akil Akilov is a distinguished worker of Tajikistan and the laureate of the A. Rudaki Prize. He is married and a father of three children.
