Childhood and Early Life
Born in Ulaanbaatar on June 29, 1980, Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene was named after his grandfather, who taught him chess and introduced him to Tibetan and Mongolian literature. After his parents divorced, he was raised by his maternal grandparents.
Education and Career Beginnings
Oyun-Erdene began his education at Ulaanbaatar School No. 28, later transferring to a province upon his grandmother's passing. He pursued higher education in journalism at Burh University. His career commenced at the young age of 21 as an administrative secretary in Burh City.
Political Involvement
In 2009, Oyun-Erdene joined the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party, contributing to its removal of the "Revolutionary" label. He served as Chairman of the Mongolian Social Democratic Youth Union from 2010 to 2014. In 2016, he was elected to the Great State Khural (Parliament) and later became a member of the government in 2019.
Premiership
On January 27, 2021, Oyun-Erdene became Prime Minister of Mongolia at the age of 40. He initiated the creation of two new ministries: Digital Development and Economic Development. In February 2022, he visited China and attended the opening of the XXIV Winter Olympics.
Personal Life and Interests
Oyun-Erdene is married to Boldin Tuul and is the father of three children. A graduate of Harvard Kennedy School, he collects historical documents and antiques. He is the author of two books, "Vision" and "Country of Asiatic Stallions."
Recent Developments
In December 2022, protests erupted in Ulaanbaatar over the alleged misappropriation of coal revenue. The Great State Khural proposed a state of emergency, but Oyun-Erdene rejected it.
