Early Life and Education
Osvald Kreśliņš was born on November 15, 1911, in the Beļava parish of the Madona district to a craftsman, Fricis Kreśliņš. After graduating from the Gulbene Commercial School, he pursued acting at the Latvian Drama Courses.
Theatrical Career
Kreśliņš began his theatrical journey in the Latgale Theater (1937-1940) and later joined the Jelgava Theater (1941-1944). Post-war, he became an actor and director at the State Theater for Young Spectators of the Latvian SSR (1941 and 1945-1950). From 1951 to 1959, he performed on the stage of the State Artistic Theater named after J. Rainis.
Radio and Directing
In 1956, Kreśliņš transitioned to radio, serving as a radio director, editor, and producer of popular programs and radio plays. By 1962, he had risen to the position of Chief Director of Latvian Radio.
Awards and Recognition
Kreśliņš's contributions to the arts were recognized with the esteemed title of Merited Artist of the Latvian SSR in 1950. He also received the Order of the Badge of Honor on January 3, 1956.
Personal Life and Legacy
Kreśliņš married fellow actress Elza Stersta. After a life dedicated to the stage and radio, he passed away on December 15, 1974, and was laid to rest at the Raiņa Cemetery in Riga.
