Paavo Korhonen, a beloved figure in Finnish folklore, is celebrated as the country's folk poet.
"Vihta-Paavo" and His Life
Born on the shores of Lake Vihtajärvi, Korhonen's life was closely intertwined with nature. Known affectionately as "Vihta-Paavo," he lived as a hunter, composing and performing songs in the taverns of Kuopio and surrounding regions.
Artistic Legacy
Korhonen's poetic works were meticulously collected and published in 1848 by Elias Lönnrot in an anthology titled "Paavo Korhonens 50 sänger och 6 visor." Republished in 1908, this collection immortalized Korhonen's music and lyrics for generations to come.
