Biography of Paco Jaumandreu

Paco Jaumandreu, also known as Francisco Vicente Jaumandreu, was an Argentine fashion designer and actor. He was born on October 17, 1925, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Early Career as a Costume Designer

Jaumandreu made his debut as a costume designer in 1942 when he dressed the leading actress Zully Moreno in the film "Historia de crímenes" (Crime Story, 1942). He continued his work in the film industry, creating outfits for actors in movies such as "El muerto falta a la cita" (The Dead One Missed the Appointment, 1944) and "El misterioso Tío Silas" (The Mysterious Uncle Silas, 1947).

Friendship with Eva Perón

Jaumandreu was known for his talent and honesty, and it was during his early years that he openly confessed his homosexuality to his parents at the age of 15. He gained recognition not only for his skills but also for his openness amongst his friends and clients. He formed a close friendship with Eva Duarte before she married Juan Perón, the leader of the populist movement, in 1945. Initially, their relationship was solely professional, as Jaumandreu designed costumes for both the actress and the first lady of Argentina. However, over time, he became a trusted confidant and a close friend.

Portrayal in "Eva Perón: The True Story"

In the historical drama "Eva Perón: The True Story" (1996), the role of Paco Jaumandreu was portrayed by actor Horacio Roca. According to the movie's version, Jaumandreu confesses his homosexuality to Eva Perón, stating that "being gay in Argentina is like being poor."

Career Resurgence and Final Years

In the 1950s, Jaumandreu had limited work in Argentine cinema, but in the early 1960s, he returned to the film industry as a costume designer. From 1964 to 1972, he worked on nine films. However, he then took a long hiatus. Unexpectedly, in 1980, Jaumandreu made a comeback as an actor in the comedy "Una Viuda descocada" (A Crazy Widow). In 1986, he appeared in the film "Soy paciente" (I'm Patient), although the movie was never released due to production issues.

Jaumandreu's last work as a costume designer was in the romantic drama "Amor de otoño" (Autumn Love) in 1996. Sadly, he passed away from a heart attack on March 9, 1995, while working on the film.
