Biography of Dolores Kondrashova

Dolores Gurgenovna Kondrashova was a renowned Russian Soviet hairdresser and designer. She was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, to Gurgen Terteryan, the director of a concert-theater association. After her father's death, Dolores moved to Moscow with her mother and sister. It was in Moscow that she developed a passion for and dedicated herself to the art of hairstyling.

Early Career

From 1962 to 1970, Kondrashova worked as a hairdresser and stylist. In 1970, she won the socialist countries' hairstylists competition, "Cup of Friendship," and became the silver medalist at the World Hairdressing Championship in Paris. From 1971 to 1989, she served as the Head of the Hairstyle Modeling Laboratory at the Ministry of Consumer Services. Since 1971, Kondrashova has been the head coach of the Russian national hairdressing team.

Professional Achievements

In 1998, the Russian team, led by Kondrashova, won the World Championship in Hairdressing in Seoul, becoming the first Russian team to achieve this title. She graduated from the Moscow Technological Institute in 1986 with a degree in economics.

In 1992, Kondrashova founded the Union of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists of Russia, of which she is currently the president. She also started the first nationwide magazine for hairdressers and cosmetologists, "Dolores," in 1992.

In collaboration with WELLA, she established the "Wella-Dolores" salon in 1992. In 1997, she opened the country's first Academy of Hairdressing Art, "Dolores," which trains master hairdressers of the highest category for all of Russia.

Kondrashova is the creator of the "World of Beauty" festival, which has been held for many years at the State Kremlin Palace. She is also the founder of the "Spring Vernissage" festival, which takes place at the Gostiny Dvor.

Kondrashova paved the way for Russian hairstylists and designers such as Sergei Zverev, Oksana Andrianova, Irina Baranova, Marina Vaskanyan, Araik Krist, Yevmenkova Tatiana, and many others. She has also influenced makeup artists like Denis Kartashev and Andrei Bakhirev.

Recognitions and Honors

On March 5, 2001, Dolores Kondrashova was invited to the Kremlin, along with other distinguished women of Russia, to attend an event hosted by President Vladimir Putin in honor of International Women's Day.

On April 27, 2002, she was awarded the title of "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation" by the President of the Russian Federation.

The French government recognized Kondrashova's significant contribution to the world of hairstyling and honored her with the Order of the Legion of Honour as a Commander.

In 2002, she became a laureate of the National Award for Women's Achievement, "Olympia."

At the World Hairstyling Organization (OMS) Congress in the summer of 2006, Dolores Kondrashova was once again elected as the President of the Eastern European Zone of the OMS.

Dolores Kondrashova was married to Joseph Adolfovich Goldman.
