Early Life and Education

Paige Christina Hammis was born on March 17, 1972, in Wisconsin, USA. She grew up in California, where she dreamed of becoming a teacher, a doctor, a wedding planner, building her dream home, and traveling the world. In college at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Hammis studied first aid and even became a certified CPR instructor. She obtained a degree in theology and psychology and completed medical internships before realizing that a career in medicine was not her calling.

Entrepreneurial Beginnings

Driven by her entrepreneurial spirit, Hammis ventured into the wedding and construction industries. In 2001, she launched her wedding planning service, Simply Elegant Weddings. As her business grew, she began assisting couples in purchasing their first homes. Despite a lack of financial resources, Hammis displayed remarkable determination and ingenuity. She immersed herself in all aspects of home construction, from drywall issues to electrical and plumbing nuances to furniture assembly.

Breakthrough in Reality Television

Hammis became a skilled builder and remodeler. She auditioned for the 2003 home restoration reality show "Monster House" and won a tool kit to repair as many homes as she could. Her appearance on a Christmas episode caught the attention of a producer for another home remodeling reality show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and Beyond

Hammis's participation in "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" became a true blessing and an opportunity to give back to her community. "I had a hard time finding gloves and a tool belt that fit me," she once remarked. Inspired to create solutions for other women, Hammis launched "Tuff Chix" in 2006, a line of books, tools, safety gear, and other accessories designed specifically for female DIYers. The first iconic product was her pink patented Toolbelt, followed by the release of her book, "Tuff Chix Guide to Easy Home Improvement," in December 2006.

Philanthropy and Other Ventures

Hammis is also the co-founder of "Rent-To-Own Investments," a private company that assists people without large down payments in purchasing homes. In early 2010, Hammis planned to establish the "Tuff Chix Foundation," dedicated to empowering young women to become successful and independent.
