Ray Combs, whose full name is Raymond Neil 'Ray' Combs, Jr., was an American comedian and the host of the television game show "Family Feud". He was born in 1956 in Hamilton, Ohio, USA. In 1983, Ray moved to Los Angeles and began his successful career as an actor and comedian. Early Success

In 1987, Ray worked with John Davidson and appeared in the popular comedy film "Overboard" alongside Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. In 1988, he was chosen by producers Mark Goodson and Howard Felsher to host the new version of the game show "Family Feud", which premiered on CBS in July. Initially, the audience responded coolly to the new host, as he was constantly compared to the beloved Richard Dawson. However, Ray was able to win over the audience and by 1992, the show transitioned to a new format, increasing its airtime from half an hour to one hour. The show later became known as "Family Feud Challenge" and eventually settled on the name "The New Family Feud".

Decline and Tragic End

By 1993, the ratings of the show started to decline after the death of Mark Goodson. Jonathan Goodson, Mark's son who took over as producer, made the decision to replace Ray with Richard Dawson. Ray hosted his final episode of "Family Feud" in May 1994. Although he continued to make appearances on various programs and shows, it was clear that his peak popularity had passed.

In July 1994, Ray was seriously injured in a car accident, which caused him chronic pain. Financial troubles also plagued him during this period. In 1995, his marriage with Debbie Combs, with whom he had six children, fell apart. They later reconciled, but the crack in their relationship remained.

In 1996, Ray made several unsuccessful attempts to revive his television career. Unfortunately, he was unable to save the show "Family Feud Challenge", which was canceled in 1995. On June 1, 1996, police were called to Ray's home as he was destroying everything in his path and exhibiting signs of suicidal thoughts. He was taken to the psychiatric ward of Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where he ultimately realized his morbid idea and hung himself using bed sheets on June 2, 1996.

In his hometown of Hamilton, Ohio, Alsace Avenue was renamed Ray Combs Boulevard in his memory.
