Biography of Patrick Collison
Early Life and EducationPatrick Collison, an Irish entrepreneur, co-founder and CEO of the company "Stripe", was born on September 9, 1988. He was the eldest of three sons of Lily and Denis Collison and was born in Limerick, County Limerick, Ireland. Collison showed an early interest in computers and started his first computer course at the University of Limerick at the age of eight. He began studying computer programming at the age of ten.
Young Achievements
Collison's passion for technology and innovation was evident from a young age. At the age of 16, he won the 41st Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in 2005 for his project on creating a programming language called "Croma". He was awarded €3000 and a trophy by Mary McAleese, the President of Ireland at the time.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
In 2007, Collison and his brother John founded a software company called "Shuppa" in Limerick. However, they faced difficulties in securing funding and support in Ireland, so they decided to move the company to California, USA. With the involvement of two American friends, the company was renamed "Auctomatic". In May 2008, the Collison brothers sold Auctomatic to Canadian company "Live Current Media", becoming millionaires overnight.
