Biography of Patrick Deuel

Patrick Deuel, one of the heaviest individuals in the world, was born in 1962 in Grand Island, Nebraska, United States. As a child, Patrick was not overweight, as seen in his childhood photos. He was just a chubby little boy. Even in his teenage years, Patrick maintained a healthy weight. He was active, playing American football, interested in basketball, and involved in scouting. However, as Patrick grew older and got married, his love for sweets and fatty food caused his weight to gradually increase.

Patrick worked as a manager in a restaurant until his weight became too much for him to leave his home. He became immobile and spent the next seven years confined within his four walls, continuously gaining weight. Despite realizing the dire state of his life, Patrick did not change his eating habits. He continued to consume large quantities of food, causing his body to take on more terrifying forms of fat.

In 2005, the world became aware of Patrick Deuel when he agreed to be the subject of a documentary film. At that time, his weight reached a record-breaking 510.75 kg (1,126 pounds). Transporting him to the hospital proved to be a challenging task, as they had to break down a wall in his house to accommodate the machinery required for his transportation. Patrick lay helpless while people around him strapped him with ropes and moved him. Eventually, he was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota, where he underwent gastric bypass surgery. He remained in the hospital for about a year, losing almost half of his previous weight.

After returning home, Patrick initially continued to lose weight, reaching a low of 170 kg (370 pounds). However, he soon began to regain the weight. By 2007, he had gained 560 pounds (254 kg) again. Despite his struggles, Patrick firmly believes that his excess weight is a result of genetics. Ironically, he consumes a bucket of chicken wings for breakfast and constantly snacks on cheese. He indulges in his favorite fried potatoes and proves to be a challenging patient for dietitians.

Patrick chose to share his story to convince insurance companies that obesity is not a lifestyle but a disease. He also aims to raise public awareness about the need for specialized hospitals for individuals suffering from obesity. Additionally, he advocates for the development of specialized ambulance vehicles for transporting obese individuals.

While many disagree with Patrick Deuel's perspective, opening hospitals for obese individuals would imply accepting the fact that people will continue to harm themselves and reach unimaginable sizes.

Today, at the age of 51, Patrick Deuel resides in Nebraska. His weight fluctuates around 200 kg, and he has successfully lost over 300 kg.
