Patrick van Aanholt: A Dutch Footballing Journey
Early CareerPatrick van Aanholt is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Premier League club Crystal Palace and the Netherlands national team. He began his career at the age of 19 with Coventry City, spending half a season on loan before being signed by Newcastle United in January 2010.
Chelsea Breakthrough
Van Aanholt joined Chelsea in the summer of 2010, but struggled to break into the first team. However, in 2011, he made his official debut for the Blues against Portsmouth, replacing Yuri Zhirkov in the 70th minute. He gained further experience in a subsequent match against Aston Villa.
Sunderland and Crystal Palace
After leaving Chelsea in 2014, van Aanholt moved to Sunderland, where he spent two seasons. In January 2017, he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Crystal Palace, where he remains a key player.
International Career
Van Aanholt's international debut came in November 2013, when he featured in a 0-0 draw against Colombia. He has since earned several caps for the Netherlands.
