Early Life and Education

Patton Oswald was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Carla and Larry Jay Oswalt. He attended Broad Run High School in Ashburn, graduating in 1987, and later earned a degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.

Oswalt began performing stand-up in the late 1980s. He wrote for the sketch show "Mad TV" and landed a starring role in the sitcom "The King of Queens," which ran from 1998 to 2007.

In September 2017, Oswalt revealed that the book, titled "I'll Be Gone in the Dark," would be released on February 27, 2018. Less than two months after the book's release, on April 25, 2018, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office announced an arrest in the Golden State Killer case. Oswalt posted a video on his Instagram, stating, "I feel like you caught him, Michelle." He also expressed a desire to visit the suspect, if he was indeed the killer, "not to gloat or be angry, but to ask him the questions that [McNamara] wanted answered at the end of the book."

Personal Life

On September 24, 2005, Oswalt married writer Michelle McNamara. Their daughter, Alice Rigney Oswalt, was born in 2009. On April 21, 2016, McNamara passed away in her sleep at the family's home in Los Angeles, California. Her death was attributed to an undiagnosed heart condition and complications from prescription medications (Adderall, Xanax, and Fentanyl). The final episode of season 3 of the television series "The Goldbergs" was dedicated to her memory. In July 2017, it was announced that Oswalt had become engaged to actress Meredith Salenger. They married later that year in November.
