Decauville Railways
Decauville's most significant contribution to engineering was the development of a narrow-gauge railway system with a 500 mm track width. This gauge became known as the Decauville gauge and revolutionized the transportation of materials in various industries, including mining, construction, and agriculture.

Decauville received a gold medal at the 1878 World's Fair for his innovative railway system. He also held the esteemed positions of Mayor of Évry-Petit-Bourg and Senator for the Seine-et-Oise department.
