Political Career
In 1848-1851, he served as a member of the Constituent and Legislative Assemblies. After the coup d'état of December 2, 1851, he fled to Belgium, returning only after an amnesty in 1859.
In 1869, he was elected to the Legislative Corps and spoke out against the plebiscite and war in 1870. Despite his opposition, he actively participated in the conflict as a commander of a mobile unit.
