Early Life and Education

Estonian maestro, trombonist, and music educator, born in . He commenced his musical journey at a music school from 1922 to 1927, where he excelled on the trombone within the Estonian Navy Band under the esteemed guidance of Raimond Kull. He later pursued formal studies at the Tallinn Conservatory under the same maestro.

Orchestral Career

Concurrently with his studies, he also played within the Estonian Opera Orchestra from 1927 to 1941. His conducting prowess emerged in 1941, marking his debut performance.

Leading the Estonian Radio Symphony Orchestra

In 1944, following the emigration of many musicians from the Estonian Radio Symphony Orchestra, he was appointed as its chief conductor. He held this prestigious position until 1950, when he passed the baton to Roman Matsov.

Music Educator and Mentor

From 1935 onwards, he shared his expertise at the Tallinn Conservatory. He served as its pro-rector from 1956 to 1971 and became a professor in 1968. His unwavering dedication towards fostering young talents led to the establishment of a specialized program for conducting wind orchestras. Between 1962 and 1979, he mentored and prepared 55 graduates in this field.
