Early Life and Training

Paula Ormaechea was born in Sunchales, Santa Fe, Argentina, on April 26, 2009. She is the daughter of Mirna and Marcelo Ormaechea and has two sisters, Valentina and Sofía. Ormaechea began playing tennis at a young age and trained under former ATP player Federico Paskvan. She drew inspiration from Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Andre Agassi, and Pete Sampras.

Junior Career

Ormaechea achieved her first professional victory in 2006 at the Banana Bowl, defeating Ana Bogdan in the final. She also won the Uruguay Bowl in March 2009. In 2009, she made her debut at two Grand Slams, the French Open and the US Open, but lost in the first round of both.

Professional Career

Debut and Early Tournaments

Ormaechea made her Fed Cup debut for Argentina in 2009, losing in the World Group playoff. She also lost her first singles match in the Fed Cup in 2010 against Estonia. In 2011, she won an ITF tournament in Santiago, Chile, and reached the finals of another ITF tournament. She also reached the finals of the qualifying round at the Brussels Ladies Open.

Grand Slam and Notable Performances

In 2012, Ormaechea qualified for the main draw of the Australian Open and defeated Simona Halep in the first round. She advanced to the second round, where she lost to Agnieszka Radwanska. At the French Open, she played against Venus Williams and won the first set before losing in three more.
