Tragedy and Talent Development

In 1990, Paulini's family experienced a tragedy when her brother was shot and killed during a robbery. Seven years later, while attending Bankstown Girls High School, Paulini's musical talent caught the attention of the school, which enrolled her in a special talent development program. This support led her to participate in the talent competition 'StarStruck', which she won. Following the show, Paulini recorded the song 'When You Believe' for a compilation album featuring the program's participants. She also performed in the 'Schools Spectacular' variety show series by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Early Career and 'Australian Idol'

In 2001, Paulini formed a group called 'MIXX' with her sisters, Sereima and Litia, and started recording demo versions of songs for solo projects. In 2003, Paulini was invited to open the South Pacific Games in Fiji and recorded the event's anthem, 'Many Rhythms, One Love', for the official album 'The Pacific at Its Best'. That same year, she auditioned and became a finalist on the first season of the Australian version of 'Pop Idol', called 'Australian Idol'. Throughout the competition, Paulini's phenomenal voice, gracefulness, and humility won the hearts of many viewers. She received praise from the judges for her performances of songs by Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Thelma Houston, and Toni Braxton.

Post 'Australian Idol' Success

Although Paulini was eliminated from the competition on the fourth week of the finals, her departure became one of the biggest surprises in the history of 'Australian Idol' voting. After leaving the show, she received numerous offers from record labels and eventually signed a four-album contract with Sony BMG Australia. In 2004, Paulini released her debut single, 'Angel Eyes', which reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and achieved 'platinum' certification. Her debut album, 'One Determined Heart', also debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and became 'platinum' certified. The album earned her two ARIA Music Awards in 2004 and a nomination for 'Highest Selling Single' for 'Angel Eyes'. In 2006, she released her second studio album, 'Superwoman', featuring singles 'Rough Day' and 'So Over You'. The album received two nominations at the 2007 Urban Music Awards. During this time, Paulini also joined the female pop group 'Young Divas', whose albums also achieved 'platinum' certification. The group disbanded a year later, and Paulini resumed her solo career.

Later Career and Activism

In 2009, Paulini signed a new contract with Albert Music and began working on material for her third album, travelling to New York for the project. During this time, she released her seventh single, 'Scarless', inspired by the end of her relationship with rugby player Wes Naiqama, who had been abusive towards her. Paulini has always been dedicated to charity work, performing at benefit concerts and raising funds. In 2010, she joined a campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence.
