Early Life and Education

Les Taniuk was born into a family of a meteorologist. In 1901, the family relocated to Zhytomyr. From 1918 onwards, he resided in Kyiv.

Founding of "Berezil"

In 1922, Taniuk became a founding member of the "Berezil" creative association in Kyiv, led by the renowned Ukrainian stage reformer Les Kurbas. From 1922 to 1926, he performed as an actor in several productions, notably as Paul in "Jimmy Higgins" (1923) and a worker in "October" (1922) and "Rur" (1923).

Directorial Pursuits

Alongside his acting career, Taniuk enrolled in the "Berezil" directorial laboratory from 1922 to 1923. He went on to direct "Commune in the Steppes" by Nikolai Kulish in 1925, showcasing his burgeoning talent as a theatre director.
